Retrieval-Augmented Generation

Retrieval-augmented generation is a method in which an AI system retrieves information from selected documents or databases and uses that material as context when generating an answer.

Also known as: RAG; grounded generation; retrieval-assisted generation

Why it matters in collision repair

RAG can make an AI assistant more useful for searching repair documentation or internal procedures, but the quality and currency of the retrieved sources still determine the reliability of the answer.

Collision-industry example

An internal assistant searches the shop's approved procedure library and cites the documents it used when answering a process question.
