Total Loss Prediction

Total loss prediction uses available claim, vehicle, damage, and market information to estimate whether repairing a vehicle is likely to be economically impractical under applicable rules.

Also known as: Total-loss likelihood; repairability prediction; total-loss propensity

Why it matters in collision repair

Early predictions can improve routing and reduce unnecessary delays, but they are preliminary and do not replace a complete valuation, damage assessment, or jurisdiction-specific total-loss determination.

Collision-industry example

A claims system uses vehicle age, market value, impact information, and visible damage to flag a vehicle for early total-loss review.
