ADAS

Advanced driver assistance systems are vehicle technologies that help a driver avoid collisions or perform certain driving tasks using cameras, radar, lidar, ultrasonic sensors, software, and other components.

Also known as: Advanced driver assistance systems; driver-assistance systems

Why it matters in collision repair

Collision repairs can disturb ADAS sensors or change their aiming. Repairers must identify equipped systems, follow OEM procedures, and determine whether calibration is required before returning the vehicle to service.

Collision-industry example

After replacing a windshield that contains a forward-facing camera, the repair plan calls for the camera to be calibrated according to the vehicle manufacturer's procedure.
