Damage Detection

Damage detection is the use of image analysis or other sensors to locate and classify visible vehicle damage such as dents, scratches, cracks, and broken components.

Also known as: Vehicle damage detection; automated damage recognition

Why it matters in collision repair

Damage detection can make inspections faster and more consistent, but image quality, lighting, vehicle color, dirt, prior damage, and concealed conditions can affect the result.

Collision-industry example

A drive-through camera system identifies a dent on a quarter panel and records its location in a digital vehicle-condition report.
